About me

I’m an excited and driven user experience designer with a passion for product. I’ve worked in User Experience for the past 4 years, and I’m looking for a new opportunity to work with other like-minded individuals on excellent new projects. My experience started with customer support and experience, so the progression towards making things that were a pleasure to use and really solve people’s problems was a natural one.

Work

Product Experience Manager – SIFT (2018 – present)

This role revolves around ensuring the success of the two major products within the business. Working across both Drupal and WordPress based products, taking an evidence and insight-driven approach to product development.

This includes both leading the product team strategy, as well as the planning and conducting of user research and testing of concepts during the design cycle. I work closely with our marketing and BA teams to pull insight from our data to understand both our audience and opportunities for commercial success.

As a small company, my role essentially spans between Product Manager and User Experience Designer.

User Experience Designer – SIFT (2016-2018)

As the sole user experience designer for SIFT I defined and implemented the UX strategy for the business. Introducing user research, usability studies and setting up measurements of success for existing products.

My responsibilities were conducting research, testing, as well as creating various types of prototypes, and then working with our designers and developers in sprints to create the final concepts and products.

During my time in both this role and my Product experience manager role, I ran numerous workshops across the business, including a number of successful Design sprints. I found these sessions, in particular, helped a great deal with buy-in to ideas and methodology.

Freelance Web Design (2017 – present)

Over the past few years I’ve worked on a number of side projects with small businesses around Bristol. For all of these projects we spent time with the client to understand their business, and between me and two others we delivered rebranding, web design and build, as well as writing copy for the sites. Two projects I was particularly proud of are detailed below.

Cock & Bull – Rebrand / Website / Content (www.cockandbullfestival.co.uk)
We worked closely with the charity Jamie’s Farm to create a new visual identity and 2018 festival website for Cock & Bull festival. I loved this project as it was for a lovely cause, and there was so much energy and passion with everyone involved. The festival sold out all its tickets, and we were lucky enough to go along and enjoy the 3 days in a field we had worked so hard towards. My role in this was understanding their target audience, and delivering the final designs.

Empire Engineering – Rebrand / Website / Content (www.empireengineering.co.uk/)
A team of us worked with Empire to create a new brand and website for their Wind Energy focussed engineering firm. It was a brilliant project, and having Engineers as stakeholders took attention to detail to a whole new level. The brief was to deliver a high-end, premium looking site whilst keeping the personality of the small team behind it. My role in this was helping to understand their users, as well as design and build of the site.

Prototyping

Experience creating interactive prototypes. Using tools such as InVision/Sketch/XD, as well as creating code based prototypes for more complicated projects.

w

User Research

From determining the best research approach, through to recruiting, interviewing and presenting insight back to stakeholders. Arguably the most important bit of design.

Workshops

From project kick-offs, through to week-long design sprints. I’ve written and run numerous workshops driving product development and discovery.

Design and build

I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the design, and build of a lot of projects I’ve researched for. The includes designing in Sketch, XD & Photoshop, through to building in PHP and CSS.

Tech

I’ve worked largely within web, across both WordPress & Drupal. I work closely with our development team and aim to understand the how as well as the what.

Design thinking

Whatever you would like to call it, I keep methods of design thinking present in my day to day. I’ve done talks at meetups in Bristol around how Design thinking encourages positive collaboration.

Sprints & Agile

I have experience working with teams in sprints in an agile environment. This also includes managing stakeholders expectations to ensure we build the best possible thing for everyone.
